BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. -- Along Florida's eastern coast, people are feeling the brunt of Tropical Storm Hanna and are bracing for Hurricane Ike.People in Brevard County are dealing with floodwaters that are still rising along Lake Poinsett.
Water is continuing to rise in the streets and is beginning to creep into some homes.Winds from Hanna are sending waves crashing into people’s back yards and onto their homes.North Merritt Island faces the same problem as rescue crews handed out about 4,000 sand bags there. Many homes were flooded by Tropical Storm Fay, and water was still standing when Friday's 1 to 2 inches of rain fell.Pumps are working overtime to get water out of neighborhoods around Brevard County. Most of the pumps put the water into the St. Johns River. That makes the problem here worse for other areas as the water moves downstream to places like Lake Monroe and on into Volusia County.
